Common questions
Lantern is a screen-free AI tutor for reading, writing, and math, built by Scout Learning Lab LLC. It sits on your child’s desk and coaches like a patient teacher — a small hint, never just the answer — with no screen for your kid. Reading happens out loud, on a real book.
No screen for your kid, ever. The child reads from a physical book and talks with Lantern. Parents use the portal and native parent app for consent, control, recaps, and progress.
Every account starts with a real, typed-signature parental-consent step — no dark patterns, no pre-checked boxes. Read the COPPA Direct Notice and Children’s Privacy Policy for the exact wording.
Use Parent sign-in to see or export your family’s data, and request deletion, whenever you want. The Privacy Policy explains the published process.
Today gives a warm, plain-English look at the most recent reading session. Progress shows how reading is trending over time, with the numbers there if you want them — friendly words first.
The live parent portal is the account home for consent, adding another child, pause, export, and deletion requests. The native parent app also includes Account alongside Today, Progress, and Discover.
